IDEA GENERATION
THIS PAGE LOOKS AT IDEAS GENERATED AND THE METHODS USED.

6-3-5 IDEATION
The 6-3-5 method for generating ideas is fairly simple. In a group of 6 one of you present your problem area/brief. You each then have 5 minutes to generate 3 product ideas for that brief. You then pass your sheet of paper to the next person and the start again. This is done until all ideas have been exhausted.
This process produced a number of good ideas, a common area that came up was weighted items of clothing or tailored clothing to force leg muscles to improve.

DE BONO - 6 HATS
This method not only generates ideas but also starts to shortlist them as well. Prior to the 6 hats being used a group is given a 5 minutes to come up with as many ideas as possible for the problem brief and write them on sticky notes. Once this is done using the 6 hats the group discusses the following about each sticky note:
White Hat - The facts about the idea/what it is
Red Hat - Gut feelings/emotion
Black Hat - Negative about the idea
Yellow Hat - Positives/Optimism about the idea
Green Hat - Creative potential
Blue Hat - Decision on idea

SELF IDEA GENERATION
One of the most obvious by underrated methods of idea generating is simply sitting down in a comfortable environement and just start think about how the problem could be solved.
A note book was used to capture all the ideas and solutions. Using the SCAMPER method one idea often branched out to several more different ideas. This process helped to exhaust all the possible ideas. Investigative doodles were also useful to start to flesh out some potential ideas.

IDEAS
Overall a total of 35 ideas were generated with many of them having seperate little branches that could then be turned into yet another idea. Although the URS had been slightly limiting with the restraint of using no modern advanced technology, the range of ideas generated were still very strong and had a good variety to them. Of all the idea generating methods used, self idea generation came out with the largest number and highest quality of ideas. Although the other methods were indeed useful, self ideation was ultimately the most productive as there was already and intimate knowledge of the exact ideas/concepts required and the sort of environemnt and people it would need to fit into.
Now that a number of ideas had been generated, it was time to start filtering them in order to get down to a handful to further develop.
